If a floor surface is too high and needs reducing down, if it is very smooth and needs a surface key or if a thick, old or failed surface needs to be removed a floor scabbler or planer or floor scarifier might be suitable.

The scabbler can also be used to repair very badly worn concrete surfaces. Rather than grinding, these machines all have a revolving drum of start shaped flails that impact and scratch the surface.
